Oral Cancer is the most common cancer type diagnosed among the Men in India. The statistics of Oral Cancer in India has tagged it among the top three cancer types in India (most common in men and fifth most common in women). Every year more than 77000 thousand people are diagnosed with Oral Cancer out of which 70-80% of the people lose their fight against Oral Cancer.

According to the Globocan 2012 stats on Oral Cancer, the primary cause of oral cancer is Tobacco consumption. About 80% of the Oral Cancer diseases are caused due to Tobacco. So, these numbers can rise even more if proper care is not taken. Apart from Tobacco, there are many other reasons too which are responsible causes of Oral Cancer. Read about all the risk factors which are linked with the causes of Oral Cancer.

Major Causes of Oral Cancer

Smoking

causes of oral cancer

Smoking is the primary cause behind Oral Cancer. The people who smoke are six times more likely to get diagnosed with Oral Cancer compared to those who don’t smoke. In the UK, out of 100 Oral Cancer patients, 60 of them are caught by Oral Cancer cells due to smoking.

Second-Hand Smoking

Can second hand smoking causes cancer

Sometimes it is also seen that people who don’t smoke are also getting diagnosed with Oral Cancer frequently. There can be many reasons for this. One of them is Passive Smoking or second-hand smoking. People who don’t smoke but still living in between the smokers and inhaling the smoke of cigarettes, pipes, cigar, etc are also prone to get diagnosed with Oral Cancer. Most of the second-hand smoking cases are seen in people having smokers in their household or at offices.

Alcohol

Alcohol causes oral cancer and is again an essential factor to look out for. Alcohol is always unhealthy for the state of mouth, but it can be even more severe if you have the habit of both smoking and drinking together. According to research, 14 units of alcohol in a week is quite a safe limit, but if you prevent it entirely, then it would be even better.

Diet

causes of oral cancer and risk factors

Diet is a significant factor behind the cause of Oral Cancer. As we all know that the habit of healthy eating will keep the mouth healthy, but few people miss this. People should have a balanced diet in their food that means food should contain carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and fats. If any of the following is not in an adequate quantity, it will indirectly affect the health of the mouth. So, have healthy food especially rich in vitamins and proteins.

Weak Immune System

The immune system keeps the notice of the health of the body and prevents foreign cells from invading the body. Therefore, weaken the immune system, weaken the immunity of the body which means more prone to be caught by the disease. So, the weak Immune system is also one of the major causes of oral cancer.

Chewing Tobacco or Betel Quid

causes or mouth cancer

Apart from smoking tobacco, chewing is also injurious to health. Chewing Tobacco-like the Betel Quid also called Gutka or Paan are harmful to the body. Most of the people also think that chewing Tobacco is an alternative to smoking, but it’s not. Hence, erase this misconception and say no to chewing tobacco.

UV Radiation

UV Radiation from the sun is harmful to the skin. The direct contact with the sunrays for a long duration kills the cells of the upper layer of skin. The most common Oral Cancer type caused due to long-term exposure to UV Radiation is Lip Cancer.

Family History

You are on the radar of Oral Cancer if any of your family member or ancestor have oral cancer or any other type of cancer. But the possibility of getting caught by this kind of risk factor is quite low compared to other risk factors.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

HPV is a kind of virus which infects or attacks your skin and the skin lining body cavities. Most of the time, this virus doesn’t show any symptom, and with time the small tumor grows into a big one. Again this is not a significant factor behind the cause of Mouth or Oral Cancer, but there is a little possibility. HPV spread from one person to another through skin contact mainly due to sexual intercourse. So, use precautions and avoid having multiple sex partners.

Past Cancer History

If a person has had any cancer in the past, then there is a possibility that he might get caught by the oral cancer cells. Especially the person who had esophagus cancer, squamous cell skin cancer, penile cancer, cervical cancer, anal cancer is more prone to Oral Cancer.

Mouth Conditions

When the health condition of the mouth is not healthy, there is a possibility that you might get to experience red or white patches in the mouth. The red patches are called erythroplakia whereas the white patches are called leukoplakia, and these patches can develop into cancer in the near future. Therefore, maintain good mouth health and regular dental check-ups can only achieve this.

These were the most common causes of oral cancer and risk factors. Try to eliminate these risk factors from the daily routine for the best health. In case you experience any of the Oral Cancer symptoms, or you are in continuous exposure to the above risk factors, meet the doctor immediately for the proper treatment on time. The stats reflect that the success rate of curing cancer at the early stage is 80% compared to that of 21% at advanced stages. Therefore, be on time, before it’s too late. Today We are going to provide the limelight to the main causes of cancer so that you can avoid these major causes because this life-threatening disease is eating our nation.  Based on the National Cancer Registry Programme of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) report, India has approx. 3.9 million cancer cases in 2016 and the main reason seen behind the cause of cancer was Smoking, Diet, Age, Inherited genes. The states such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar has 6,74,386,  3,64,997,  3,59,228 cancer cases respectively while in South India, Tamil Nadu has 2,22,748, Karnataka 2,02,156 and Andhra Pradesh has 1,59,696 cases of cancer.

“Being the most populous states of our country, the number of cancer cases are also high in U.P., Maharashtra, and Bihar. But when we go into depth and look the cancer cases according to the population, then, we found that states which are at high risk are North East regions such as Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Cancer is a life-threatening disease but still, 40% of the cancer cases can be prevented including lung cancer and mouth cancer.

The above stat may threaten you but this is the fact which India is actually facing today. And you must be aware of it. Even if you are living a healthy life but missing some points which can actually affect your whole healthy routine, can cause cancer. ‘Sonali Bendre’ the Indian actress is the most suitable example for this.

When your body cells start behaving in an antisocial way, it might lead to the emergence of cancer. Here we will let you know about the leading causes of cancer which supports the abnormal growth of cells. Check out the top 10 reasons behind the cause of cancer below.

9 Main Causes of Cancer Which Everyone Should Avoid

#1 Tobacco

main causes of cancer

As we all know that smoking is the primary reason behind the cause of lung cancer. The smoke which you intake via cigarettes is full of carcinogens which affect your lung tissues. Our body possesses muscular tissues which repair the damage caused by smoking, but the repeated practice can be very harmful. According to the research, 15 cigarettes are enough to get you in the cancer zone.

Tobacco is one of the major reason behind mouth cancer and lung cancer. Majority of Indians are addicted to tobacco consumption. People in the U.P. and Bihar are mostly addicted to tobacco which causes cancer thus, the number of sufferers is high in these states. In order to prevent lung and mouth cancer, we have to cease the tobacco usage. Tobacco Usage is the main cause of Cancer of around 14 body parts shown in the above diagram.

#2 Obesity or Overweight

main causes of cancer 5

There is a large number of people who are suffering from overweight which may add them to the list of people living with cancer. One of the primary reason for the increase in weight is the fats. There are two types of fats – Saturated and Unsaturated fats.

The saturated fats are more prone to cause disease as they increase the cholesterol level in the body. The excess of fat in the body affects the hormones drastically. Apart from this – genetic, hormonal, environmental, emotional factors also contribute to your obesity. So, be attentive with your body weight. Exercise regularly and plan to lose weight in small proportions. According to the doctors, Body Mass Index (BMI) less than 25 is good for health. But note that this number varies with the height and age.

#3 UV Radiation

main causes of cancer

UV Radiation from the Sun is the primary cause behind the Skin Cancer. Experiencing too much radiation from the sun can damage the skin DNAs. And when these cells start growing abnormally, it becomes the primary reason behind Skin and many other cancer types. Sun is good for health but can also be harmful if proper care is not taken.

#4 Diet

main causes of cancer 4

You may not believe but diet is the main cause behind 35%-40% of people who are suffering from cancer. Diet is directly related to the obesity, so we can say that half of the deaths in cancer are caused due to the wrong diet. In general, we suggest avoiding the menu comprising red meat, salty foods, hot dogs, lunch meat, sausage, bacon, etc. Doctors advise the intake of more and more fruits and vegetables having a high quantity of fiber which reduces the risk of cancer. Don’t miss to read about cancer fighting foods.

#5 Alcohol

main causes of cancer 3

Liquor Drinking is Injurious to health, no matter, if you drink the alcohol all at one time or over the period, the damage is equally devastating. Whether you drink beer, wine, or anything, the damage is the same. Alcohols contain acetaldehyde (the toxic chemical), which makes alcohol a cancer-prone ingredient. Alcohol is the main cause of cancers of the mouth upper throat cancer, larynx cancer, esophagus cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, bowel cancer, etc.

#6 Air Pollution

main causes of cancer 2

Toxic gases or the polluted environment is another factor behind the cause of lung cancer. Reports say that the risk is low, but the continued exposure to the polluted environment can be worse for you. Apart from lung cancer, polluted environment also causes many heart and respiratory diseases. Although, air pollution is not that much dangerous for health as compared to other reasons you need to be conscious about this too.

Apart from Polluted air, second-hand smoke is also contributing towards Lung cancer among the people. Hence, whenever you found any person smoking nearby you, ask them to stop. If not, then move away from there.

#7 HPV

main causes of cancer 1

HPV or Human Papillomavirus is the virus which can make you the victim of cervical cancer,  mouth cancer, throat cancer, and cancer-related to genital areas. HPV enters into the body when you perform vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who has this virus. HPV infects the fingers, hands, mouth, and genitals. Cancer caused by this virus has a drawback in that it doesn’t show any symptom. Hence, in order to avoid the risk of getting infected by HPV, use barriers during sex as this can spread through the skin contact only(but not that much effective).

#8 Age

main causes of cancer

Age is a significant factor when it comes to causing cancer. Cancer cells take years to develop which makes the old age person more victim of this life-threatening disease. The risk of cancer increases with the age, generally after 50 and most of the cancer cases are found at the age of 66 and above.

#9 Inherited Genes

main causes of cancer

Cancer will catch you even after you have been too much conscious about your health. If you had any cancer-related history in your family, we suggest you go for the regular check-ups. As the DNA/ cells of cancer can get inherited through genes which grow and effects in your body over the period of time. The only remedy to reduce cancer of this type is the regular health check-ups.

We hope that you found this article helpful and surely you will follow the ideas to prevent yourself and your loved ones from causing cancer.

Role of Second Hand Smoking in Cancer

Our today’s blog is an answer to the question that does second-hand smoke cause Cancer.  The Smoking industry is more than a billion-dollar industry in the world today. The strangest thing about this world is that harmful things are favored more than the things that really matter. Anyway, we all have heard of smoking. You can see your relatives, friends, people in public places, transportation systems feeling superb by puffing out the strange smelling gases. That smoke is irritating for all of those who don’t smoke at all. It is not only irritating but also very harmful. In this article we will tell you about second-hand smoke, does second-hand smoking causes cancer? And many more things….

What is Passive or Second-Hand Smoking?

In simple terms, indirect smoking is passive smoking. Have you ever been alongside a person smoking and that too directly into your face? And you would have inhaled that smoke and felt like blowing off that person’s face! Passive smoking is also called second-hand smoking in which the non-smoking person inhales the smoker’s smoke. Irritating right? We have all been through that. Passive smoking should not be taken lightly, it is equally harmful to both the smokers and the nonsmokers.

second hand smoking causes cancer

There are two types of smoke-

  1.       Main Stream – is directly inhaled from cigarettes mouth end
  2.       Side Stream– comes from the cigarette burning tip

Second-hand smoke is the mixture of the two and is said to be more harmful.

Does Second Hand Smoke Cause Cancer?

If you are frequently a victim of second-hand smoking, then you are very vulnerable to this life-threatening disease. It is not like, today you came into contact with the smoke for a few seconds and the same thing repeated after several months and you will be attacked by a serious disease. For nonsmokers, that experience is always annoying, and it is very harmful to small babies even if it is a few seconds of experience. But if the act is being repeated every day, i.e. suppose you need to travel daily for work in the morning and there is this person whose work timing matches with yours and he/she daily smokes in front of you before catching the bus. Now, that is dangerous, and chances are high that you can be infected with cancer. Now you know how can second-hand smoking causes cancer even if no one smokes in your house!

How Can Second Hand Smoking Cause Cancer?

But How Can Second Smoking causes Cancer? As mentioned earlier, if you are constantly inhaling the smoke very often then you are inhaling chemicals like arsenic, benzene, ethylene oxide, toluene and many more which are the agents that can cause cancer. You won’t believe, there are more than 7000 chemicals present in second-hand smoke and 250 are considered harmful according to National Cancer Institute. So, you can say second-hand smoking causes cancer with the aid of 250 harmful chemicals!

What Type of Cancer can Second-Hand Smoke Cause?

By now you must have realized that passive smoking causes cancer, but the question remains -what kind of? The answer is- Nonsmokers who are inhaling the harmful smoke unintentionally pose the same risk of getting lung cancer as the mainstream smoker. If you are living with a smoker then chances of getting a lung cancer increases by 30%.

How Long Does it Take to develop Cancer Cells in Passive Smokers?

No straightforward answer for the duration of developing cancer cells in second-hand smokers. But there are some reports that give some idea about developing cancer cells in second-hand smokers.  According to ncbi, if a person between age 0-25 is exposed to SHS(Second-hand Smoke) then the risk of getting lung cancer is higher than the person who was exposed to SHS later in life.

Cancer by Passive Smoking in Children

Can second hand smoking causes cancer

If not today, but it will surely capture your child’s health soon. Children are at a higher risk of getting infected with cancer and other harmful condition because they are still growing. Infants can be a victim of SIDs (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Children who are frequently exposed to second-hand smoke will wheeze and cough more. They will have fluidic ears, children with asthmas can get themselves in serious trouble. People smoking in front of children should realize that passive smoking causes cancer and should at least avoid smoking during that time.

How to Avoid Second-Hand Smoking

#1 Say “NO SMOKING” to people smoking in your home premises.

Does second smoke causes cancer

#2 If they are smoking in your car, simply ask them to throw it away.

#3 Avoid going to restaurants where smoking is allowed.

#4 If you are a smoker, you should be wise enough to decide what is good for and for your family.

#5 If possible cover your mouth and nose while going out.

#6 If you are traveling in an unknown city and someone is smoking near you, ask them politely to stop it, if they don’t agree, stay away from them and you can also warn them not to smoke in a public place as it is prohibited as per Indian Law.

Curious children always ask this question- Why do people smoke knowing that it is harmful?  The answers should be straightforward.

  1. People think that it is fun to smoke but actually that damages our health.
  2. Many youngsters think that they look smart while smoking. However, the act of smoking is not good from any angle. It puts our lungs at risk and also disturbs the people who are closeby the smoker.
  3. Smoking is an addiction.
  4. Many times, people start smoking just because of peer pressure. Hence, by giving such answers to the curious questions of children, you can aware them about the bad effects of smoking.

And why does not the government do anything about that? Say, it is a billion-dollar industry. And if the kid asks should I also be smoking then? Do not answer yes or no. Simply say it is your choice. By doing this you will make the kid think. And that is what will matter, deep thinkers will make wise choices. Plenty of campaigns have been set up to make people quit smoking but it is not enough because no one wants to think and make changes for betterment. So, now if we start from the root level i.e. from the absolute young generation, triggering in them the ways to think differently, things might change! Hope you know understand completely that does second-hand smoke causes cancer or not!

What is Breast Cancer?

Before discussing the causes of Breast cancer, First of all, it is very important to understand that exactly what is breast cancer. In the most simple and understandable language, breast cancer refers to the condition when cells in the breasts start to grow in such a manner that the human body loses control over it. These untamed cells multiple to result in a tumor. This can often be detected quite clearly in x-rays or be felt like a lump.

breast cancer causes

Now, what comes to your mind must be the fact that if this is a tumor, how does it suddenly transform into a deadly disease like cancer. This expanding tumor is considered to have taken the form of cancer when it spreads and encroaches into the surrounding tissues or other parts of the human body.

It is important to note that it is a myth that only women suffer from breast cancer. The reality is that men too are prone to it. Both the sexes have breast tissues. The difference is only that in case of women, it grows with time. Thus, men should also be beware and not ignore the symptoms.

Causes of Breast Cancer and Symptoms

Now that you know what exactly breast cancer is, you must also know the breast cancer causes. This is what we term as the “risk factors”. It is very important to know the major causes of breast cancer that everyone ignores. This is bound to help you take precautionary measures and protect yourself.

In fact, you may also make suggestions to close ones on what may potentially lead to breast cancer.

Major Causes of Breast Cancer

Let us now discuss the major causes of breast cancer in detail:

  • Genes: The first cause of breast cancer may be your genetic make-up. This means that individuals may be prone to breast cancer if anyone in their family previously had it. This implies that these dormant cells and tissues may be passed from one generation to another. Widely recognized breast cancer genes are BRCA1 and BRCA2. There are also risk factors relating to ovarian cancer.
  • Age: Another risk factor that makes one likely to cause breast cancer is increasing age. It is often noted that younger individuals are not likely to be affected by it. It is those of about 40 years of age or so, who may show symptoms of breast cancer.
  • Radiation Treatments: Exposure to radiation is another risk factor that cannot be overlooked. This means that if you have ever received or undergone treatment as a child that involved the use of radiations, then you may be slightly more prone than others to develop it.
  • Periods and Menopause: Every woman has to go through her monthly cycle of periods when the uterus lining is shed out of the body if the eggs remain unfertilized. It has now started in young girls of about the age of 11. According to studies. If the age of the first period is below 12, then that is another risk factor and may cause breast cancer afterward. In fact, women who begin menopause (the stop of periods) at a later age than the usual, are also inclined to be detected with breast cancer.
  • Pregnancy: Having a child is considered a boon by many and there are women who desperately wish to have a baby. But then, there are also those who do not wish to get pregnant or take the added responsibility of rearing up a child. How this cause breast cancer is due to the fact that if women have their first child after the age of 30 or do not conceive at all, they may be risking their lives and lad to the development of breast cancer.
  • Medications: Women engaging in postmenopausal hormone therapy must beware. This treatment combines estrogen and progesterone which may be unsuitable and highly unrecommended. In case of engagement with these, we would suggest an immediate stop.
  • Alcohol is also another case and risk factor leading to breast cancer. Alcohol abuse is a major cause of Breast cancer which everyone ignores.

What is Liver Cancer and Its Possible Causes?

Today we’ll discuss the causes of Liver cancer, but before that lets first find out what actually is liver cancer? Cancer essentially means the uncontrollable division and multiplication of cells which impair the proper functioning of the human body. What makes thing worse is that these cells rapidly spread through the body since the body is made up of innumerable tissues and cells are the building blocks of tissues. It is important to note that only those cancers that start or originate in the liver can be termed as liver cancer. Functions of the liver include the production of bile to break-down fats, absorb nutrients and allow the body to clear toxins like alcohol or drugs.

the causes of liver cancer

There are several different types of tumors that may originate in the liver. These may namely be:

  • Benign liver tumors: The tumor does not spread and the patient can be treated surgically.
  • Hemangioma: The blood vessels are affected and surgery is useful.
  • Hepatic adenoma: There may be symptoms such as pain or heaviness in the abdomen area. Since there is a risk of rupture leading to excess blood loss, doctors advise a surgery for the removal of the tumor.
  • Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH): A surgery is recommended.

Please note that hepatic adenoma and FNH are more common in women.

Possible Causes of The Liver Cancer

The exact cause of liver cancer is still not known.

Though some major factors associated with the causes of Liver Cancer, which are

  • Birth defects
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Chronic infections with diseases such as hepatitis B and C
  • Obesity
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Hemochromatosis (this is a genetic disease in which there is excess iron in the liver)
  • Cirrhosis (the scar tissues replace healthy tissues of the liver due to excess consumption of alcohol)
  • Smoking
  • Use of steroids
  • Weak immune system
  • Persons suffering from diabetes plus if they consume excessive amounts of alcohol are at a severe risk of liver cancer.
  • However, most patients associated with the disease are found to be having scarring of the liver, also known as cirrhosis.
  • The American Cancer Society has stated hepatitis C to be the major reason behind the occurrence of liver cancer. Patients with both hepatitis B or C are at a higher risk of developing liver cancer than other healthy people, as both forms of the hepatitis cause cirrhosis.
  • Few inherited liver diseases, like hemochromatosis, result in cirrhosis also.
  • Type 2 diabetes: Patients of this diabetes along with hepatitis, when consuming excessive alcohol, are more likely to easily develop liver cancer.
  • Family history: If a person’s mother, father, or any sibling has had a history of liver cancer, then he or she would be at a risk more than the healthy individual to develop cancer.
  • Heavy alcohol use: Consumption of excessive alcohol regularly leads to cirrhosis in the liver.
  • Low immunity: Patients with weakened immunity, like those with HIV/AIDS have a higher risk of developing liver cancer which is five times more than other healthy ones.
  • Obesity: Being a person with obesity increases chances of developing many cancers, along with liver cancer.
  • Gender: Males get a higher percentage liver cancer in comparison to females. But this is mostly due to lifestyle characteristics rather than gender-based.
  • Smoking: People with hepatitis B or C if smoke more than they are at a higher risk of liver cancer.
  • Arsenic: People dependent on water wells for water consumption that contains naturally-occurring toxin arsenic will eventually have a higher risk of developing liver cancer.

Thus, all these people under the radar of higher risk should be screened properly for any cancer be it liver cancer. This includes people suffering from hepatitis B or C, alcohol-related cirrhosis, and those with hemochromatosis.

Major Symptoms of Liver Cancer

Before reading the symptoms of liver cancer, it is very important to understand that these are tentative symptoms that are common. Thus, it is always recommended to visit a certified doctor and undergo the necessary tests before jumping to a conclusion and causing panic.

  • There may be a swelling or easy fluid build-up in the abdomen
  • Constant itching beyond relief
  • Jaundice leading to yellow eyes and skin
  • Fever
  • Enlarged and visible belly veins
  • Bleeding
  • Bruising

What is Blood Cancer?

Wondering what is blood cancer exactly? How the Blood Cancer is Caused? Our body functions due to the continuous pumping of blood. This blood contains three essential components. These three components are namely; red blood cells (RBCs) that help to transport oxygen throughout the body, white blood cells (WBCs) that aid in fighting infections and diseases that attack the smooth working of the human body and platelets that assist in the blood clot. These are what we know as the elements that form stem cells.

causes of blood cancer

What are Stem Cells?

Stems have the capacity to develop into any type of blood cell as they multiply. Any difficulty in this process leads to the production of a huge quantity of immature cells. There may also be a condition when the bone marrow gets clogged up and fails to allow other blood cells to perform their tasks.

Major Reason for Blood Cancer

To know how blood cancer occurs, read and avoid the below-mentioned reasons of blood cancer.

  • Increasing age: Though this is a cause of blood cancer, please note that cancer can affect anyone at any age.
  • Infections: Infections can often lead to the disruption of the proper functioning of cells. Infections are nothing but foreign substances in the body that does not go well with what the system is used to. Infections of any sort that are in direct contact with the blood are the causes of Blood Cancer.
  • Substandard Immune System: In case your immune system is not up to the mark due to repeated ailments or lack of proper nutrition, you may be at risk of developing blood cancer. Weak Immune System is the main cause of blood cancer as observed by the specialists.
  • Chemicals: It often happens that chemicals in adulterated food items that we consume or the products we apply to our bodies, may be harmful to the blood and may cause blood cancer.
  • Radiation treatments: Radiation treatment is used for ailments other than cancer as well. Thus, this exposure may also lead to the growth of cancer cells.
  • Genes (Including Genetic Disorders): Not all, but certain types of cancers are known to be genetic. This means that in case you have a family history of sufferers, you too may be at risk. Heredity is among the major causes of blood cancer in children.
  • HIV/AIDS: HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. The name itself clarifies that the immune system is compromised.
  • Organ transplant: Organs from the bodies of others may also carry these cancer cells which grow in the new body after transplant. In fact, it’s possible that the donor has a family history of cancer.
  • Smoking: Cigarettes have tobacco which is a great contributor to the development of cancer cells.

Other Possible Risk Factors of Blood Cancer

Apart from the above-mentioned causes of Blood Cancer, there are many other too which can lead you to Blood Cancer. The other possible Risk Factors of Blood Cancer are:

  • Western Diet: Western diet or we can say the fast food is also a factor behind Blood Cancer Cause. Western Diet as a Blood Cancer Risk Factor is currently diagnosed in the western countries.
  • Sucralose: Sucralose is also a factor behind blood cancer cause.
  • Electromagnetic Fields (Power Lines): Cancer through power lines or electromagnetic fields are the cause generally seen in children. Children living or having a residence near to the power lines are at the increased risk of blood cancer.
  • Radon: Radon is nowadays available in the homes in the form of ionizing radiation. So, Radon is also a factor behind Blood Cancer.
  • Coffee and Tea: The studies are going on regarding cancer’s relation between coffee and tea but it has said that the people with high tea/ coffee consumption are more prone to blood cancer.

Types of Blood Cancer-

#1 Leukemia

There are four primary types of leukemia; acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). There are cancers that mainly hamper the white blood cells and bone marrow. It leads to quick division of the cells but they do not get the adequate time to grow and develop. Thus, they are unable to do their work. This results in a compromised and not up to the mark immune system that fails to fight infections and foreign substances. There are referred to as ‘acute’ when they develop too fast and need immediate treatment while they are ‘chronic’ when they progress slowly and do not need immediate attention. The major causes behind Leukemia are:

  • Artificial Ionizing Radiation
  • Viruses
  • Petrochemicals and Benzene
  • Smoking
  • Alkylating Chemotherapy Agents
  • Hair Dyes

#2 Lymphoma

Two types of lymphoma are Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Hodgkin lymphoma. It affects the lymphatic system which then fails to transform the WBCs to different parts of the body and the removal of waste products from the blood is also compromised.

  • Age
  • Sex
  • Chemicals and radiation
  • Infection
  • Autoimmune disease
  • Body Weight and Diet

#3 Myeloma

This is also called multiple myeloma and impacts plasma cells which are charged with the duty of producing antibodies to fight infections.

  • You’re older than 65
  • You have a family member who suffered from Myeloma
  • Solitary plasmacytoma
  • Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS)

Link of Blood Pressure with the Cancer

First, it is very important to understand that what is blood pressure. In simple words, blood pressure is the pressure or force of the blood in one’s circulatory system. It is closely linked to the rate of one’s heartbeat and the elasticity of the artery walls. Studies and research show the high blood pressure is linked to high chances of developing blood cancer. High blood pressure is also referred to as ‘hypertension’ and may undoubtedly lead to higher risk of kidney cancer, lung cancer, bladder cancer, bowel cancer, oral cancer as well as melanoma and nonmelanoma cancers of the skin.

Drugs of Blood Pressure and their Link with the Cancer

Angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs) block angiotensin II and increase blood pressure. Thus, medicines used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure and diabetes slightly increase the risk of developing cancer. These drugs are causes of low blood pressure in cancer patients.

General and Early Stage Symptoms of Blood Cancer

Few Common early stage symptoms of blood cancer are mentioned below:

  • Coughing which can lead to pain or heaviness in the chest.

  • Regular exercise and physical fitness are very important. There must at least one sports engagement or a minimum 30 minutes of activity. Exercise can eliminate the reasons behind blood cancer and must be done every day whether one is observing the symptoms or not.
  • The body weight must be in accordance with one’s height and weight. Underweight people must increase their weight while those who are obese must shed the extra kilos. Maintaining the Body Mass Index can avoid the causes of blood cancer.
  • Calorie dense foods and aerated drinks must be avoided. The body is what it eats. Thus, soft drinks and junk must stay away from. However, they are fine to be consumed in little proportions. In fact, processed meat is also recommended to be avoided.
  • Alcohol must be limited. Casual and occasional drinking is accepted as well as recommended for the benefits of different drinks. But, too much of it is dangerous.
  • Salt must be taken in only the right proportion. This is linked to blood pressure as spoken about earlier.
